On 13 August 2025 at 02:37 CEST EUMETSAT's Metop-SGA1, which hosts the first Copernicus Sentinel-5 instrument, launched from Kourou spaceport. Shortly after the satellite sent back its first signal and opened its solar panel.

Metop-SGA1 is the first in a series of three successive pairs of satellites that will ensure delivery of global observations from polar orbit for weather forecasting and climate analysis.

Sentinel-5A will deliver daily global data on key air pollutants, essential climate variables, and stratospheric ozone that protects us from ultraviolet radiation.
