The world’s most precise navigation system, Galileo, is set to launch to more satellites, and it is their first launch on our new Ariane 6 rocket.
Ariane 6 has launched five times already but this Galileo launch is special: allowing Europe’s heavy-lift launcher to really flex and unleash its thrust.
Ariane 6 launches from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana and so far Ariane 6 has launched to a low Earth orbit, or a sun-synchronous orbit (flying north-south and following the sun), these orbits are no father than 700 km from Earth.
Galileo flies in a medium Earth orbit, around 23000 km, meaning Ariane 6 will fly 32 times farther than it has before dropping off the two new Gaileo satellites to join the constellation – allowing you to know where you are on Earth.
