On February 20th, 1959, a search party was put together to look for nine missing hikers, who vanished around the Kholat Syakhal, or 'Mountain of Death', mountain of the Ural Mountain Range. Over the next three months, the bodies of the hikers would begin turning up in more and more suspicious circumstances. Both radioactive clothing and compelling fractures to some of the victims raised worrying questions as to the nature of that mountain; and in 60 years, the mystery has never been solved and remains one of the most perplexing mysteries of the Soviet era to this day.
